Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This website exists to share writing, projects, and the occasional useful tool, not to hoover up personal information. I collect as little as I reasonably can, use it only for sensible website reasons, and do not sell your data.

What gets collected

Most visits to this site are wonderfully uneventful. You browse around, the site loads, and everyone gets on with their day.

There are a few cases where information may be collected:

  • If you use the contact form, I receive the details you choose to send, such as your name, email address, subject, and message.
  • Basic technical information may be collected automatically, such as the pages visited, browser and device type, approximate location, referring pages, and server logs.
  • Analytics and cookie information may be collected to understand how the site is being used. There is more detail in the cookies policy.

Why it is used

The information is used for practical things:

  • Replying when you send a message.
  • Understanding which pages are useful, broken, slow, or being ignored entirely.
  • Keeping the website secure, reliable, and working properly.
  • Meeting any legal obligations, should that ever be necessary.

That is it. No ads. No selling personal information. No creepy cross-site profiling.

Analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. That helps me see things like popular pages, device types, and whether something needs improving.

Information is used in aggregate and is not intended to personally identify you. If you would rather not be included in analytics, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The cookies policy explains this in a bit more detail.

Who else is involved

Like most websites, this one relies on a few service providers to keep the lights on, including hosting, form handling, analytics, and security services. They may process information on my behalf, but only for the purposes described here.

Information may also be shared if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the security and integrity of the website.

How long it sticks around

Contact form messages are kept only for as long as needed to reply and maintain reasonable records. Technical logs and analytics data are kept according to the retention settings of the relevant service providers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal information, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, restrict or object to processing, or request a copy of the information you provided. If you want to ask about any of that, please get in touch.

Updates

This policy may change from time to time, mostly because websites and services change. The latest version will always live here, with no need for detective work.
